Bucket Filler Program: Modified version will be implemented during remote learning.
The philosophy behind the bucket filler program is that each of us have an invisible bucket. When we show kindness toward another person we "fill" their bucket. When we disrespect another we "dip" in their bucket. Teachers and staff are always on the lookout for bucket filling behavior. Students are awarded bucket filler
coupons when they are randomly observed demonstrating positive behavior.
The recognition program goes as follows: When a student receives…
25 Bucket Fillers: Students receive an “I Am A Bucket Filler” pencil
Students receive a "Terrific 25" Spirit Stick*

LUNCH BUNCH
Don't be surprised if your child comes home and says I had lunch with the "Bug Smasher" today. Each day a few students from each grade level are randomly invited to have lunch in the Guidance Office. Throughout the year every student has an opportunity to eat lunch with me a few times. It is a wonderful opportunity for me to get to know each and every student here at Troy Craughwell. Sometimes Mrs. Barker and Mr. Foster pop in to say hello!

SEL = SOCIAL EMOTIONAL LEARNING
As a result of the Children's Mental Health Act of 2003, the Illinois State Board of Education adopted Illinois Social and Emotional Learning Standards. Illinois is a leader in integrating SEL into education by being the first state to adopt a comprehensive set of SEL standards as part of the state's learning standards.
Social Emotional Learning is the process through which children develop awareness and management of their emotions. They learn to set and achieve important personal and academic goals, use social-awareness and interpersonal skills to establish and maintain positive relationships, demonstrate decision making and responsible behaviors to achieve school and life success. There is a strong research base indicating that competencies in SEL improve students' social emotional development, readiness to learn, classroom behavior, and academic performance.
What we do each day at Troy Craughwell contributes to this skill set. All classrooms conduct morning or afternoon meetings weekly and address our school wide monthly SEL learning targets. We begin each day with a message from our Principal Mrs. Barker and Assistant Principal Mr. Foster called the 3 word thought. Friday we complilment the theme with a song known as the "Friday Feature." Each month we focus on a theme and explain to students what our learning target and expectations are for that theme. They are as follows:
SEL Social Emotional Learning Targets/Monthly Themes and Expectations

WELCOME TO THE NEW KIDS ON THE BLOCK
We have a program here at Troy Craughwell called "New Kids on the Block."
Each new student has been assigned a "Craughwell Comrade."A comrade is a special friend in his/her classroom that helps them learn the ropes here at school. They help them at lunch and recess and with general knowledge about where things are and simple procedures around the school. Each new student has their picture taken and given a short interview. Their responses and pictures can be located in our hall of fame, along with our "New Staff on the Block" too! We hope this programs helps all our new students transition and feel comfortable in their new home! |
